Privacy policy
This policy explains what Tidy Puzzles (tidypuzzles.com) stores, what it does not, and which third parties are involved. The short version: there are no accounts, your games and stats stay in your browser, analytics is anonymous, ads are shown only with the consent that applies where you live, and we do not sell data. Who we are
Tidy Puzzles is an independent website operated by a small team. For anything in this policy, write to hello@tidypuzzles.com.
No accounts, no profiles
You cannot create an account on Tidy Puzzles, and we do not ask for a name, an email address or any other personal detail to play. We keep no user database.
Data stored on your device
To remember unfinished games, settings and statistics, the site uses your browser's local storage and IndexedDB. This covers the state of a game in progress (so you can resume it), your settings (theme, sound, animations, highlight helpers) and per-game statistics (games played and won, best and average times, daily streaks).
This data is written and read only by the site in your browser. It is not transmitted to us or to anyone else, and we cannot see it. Clearing site data in your browser deletes it permanently; there is no copy anywhere.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives your IP address and standard request details (the page requested, browser type, time) in order to deliver pages and to protect the site against abuse. Cloudflare processes this on our behalf as a service provider under its own privacy policy. We do not use it to identify visitors.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics on every page. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your device and reports only aggregated counts such as page views and load times. It cannot be used to follow an individual.
We may additionally enable Google Analytics 4. When it is enabled, it loads only after you have given consent where consent is required, using Google Consent Mode v2 with every storage type set to denied by default. The events we send are limited to the game, the variant or difficulty, and coarse outcome buckets (won or lost, a time range, a moves range). We do not send names, email addresses, precise locations or anything typed into a puzzle.
Advertising
The site is funded by advertising. When ads are enabled, we use Google AdSense for display units around the board and Google H5 Games Ads for interstitials at natural breaks (after a game ends and you start a new one) and for optional rewarded ads on the Hint button. No ad is shown before you can play, and none are shown on this page, the terms page, the contact page, the offline page or the 404 page.
Google, as an advertising vendor, may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we use a Google-certified consent management platform (Google's Privacy & messaging) that asks for your choices before any advertising cookies are set. If you decline, ads are non-personalised. To change your choice later, clear the site's cookies and the consent message appears again.
Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Children
Tidy Puzzles is a general-audience site. A few pages are designed mainly for children: Sudoku for kids, Word Search for kids and the kids printable sheets. On those pages we request child-directed treatment from Google, which means non-personalised ads only, and we never show interstitial or rewarded ads there. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children anywhere on the site, and since there are no accounts, there is no mechanism for doing so.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or share personal data. We have none to sell.
- We do not use third-party error tracking or session recording.
- We do not send newsletters or any email, because we do not collect addresses.
- We do not embed social media widgets that track you across sites.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR or the CCPA), you have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of personal data about you. Because Tidy Puzzles holds no personal data about visitors, the practical way to exercise them is on your own device: clearing site data removes everything the site stored, and your browser's cookie settings control any advertising cookies.
If you believe we do hold something about you, or you want to raise a complaint, write to hello@tidypuzzles.com and we will respond. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when practices change, for example if an analytics or advertising provider is added or removed, and the date on this page will change with it. Significant changes are also noted on the changelog page.
