How to print kids sudoku sheets

  1. Choose the 4×4 or 6×6 grid.
  2. Choose digits or shapes (circle, square, triangle, star, heart and diamond).
  3. Pick 1 to 12 puzzles and 1, 2, 4 or 6 per page.
  4. Choose A4 or Letter, normal or large print, and whether to include answers.
  5. Create the PDF and print. The sheet code lets you print the same set again.

Using printable sudoku for kids at home and school

Every kids grid can be solved with singles alone and has exactly one answer. A 4×4 grid starts with 6 to 8 of its 16 cells filled and uses 1 to 4 in 2×2 boxes; a 6×6 grid starts with 14 to 18 of 36 and uses 1 to 6 in 2×3 boxes. Each page repeats the rule in one line.

Start with 4×4 and shapes for children who are not yet confident with numbers. Shapes are printed in colour with a dark outline, so they read on a black-and-white printer too. Move to digits, then to 6×6, as confidence grows.

In a classroom, one sheet code gives everyone the same puzzles and the answer pages make checking quick. Six per page works for older pupils; younger children do better with two or four per page and large print, which gives bigger cells to write in.

For car journeys and waiting rooms, a few sheets and a pencil go a long way. Keep the answers with the adult.

If a child gets stuck, ask them to point to a row, column or box with only one gap, and to say which number or shape is missing. That question, and its partner, "where can the 3 go in this box?", is all a kids grid ever needs.

What a kids sudoku PDF contains
